An animatic of a sequence from the Endar Spire tutorial from Aspyr’s scrapped version of the Knights of the Old Republic remake has surfaced via MP1st. The website had previously shared leaked concept art for Kashyyyk from the remake, plus an assortment of early-development screenshots from assets meant to be encountered early in the game. These appear to be consistent with the footage shown of the Endar Spire sequence. That version of the project has since been scrapped, now being redeveloped by Saber Interactive. The videos, which can be seen via the report on MP1st, reveal an animatic with temporary voice acting that shows how the remake would’ve approached the new adaptation of the story from the 2003 hit from the Star Wars Legends continuity by showing a more cinematic, action-driven version of the Endar Spire escape. One of the major changes is also apparent from the footage, concerning the player character – who is shown to be fully-voiced, unlike in the original game, where all dialogue from the protagonist character was player-chosen but not voiced and only readable in text on-screen, like in classic RPGs. In the animatic, two characters appeared alongside the customizable player character – the ill-fated tutorial partner Trask Ulgo, and more permanent party member Carth Onasi. The footage begins moments after a skirmish on the Endar Spire, with the player character and Trask receiving a transmission from Carth about what to do next when transmissions are cut off. Suddenly, an explosion causes a massive rift in the ship to open, with both Trask and the player character clinging to parts of the interior to avoid certain death. Trask saves the player character’s life by closing a door and restoring gravity to the room, with both characters resolving to restore communications and to find Carth. As it stands, the remake of the Legends-continuity game is being redeveloped by Saber Interactive’s Mad Head Games after Aspyr’s version fell apart, with all indications being that the game is slowly, steadily moving forward under the new studio. In the meantime, Fate of the Old Republic, which features talent from the original Knights of the Old Republic returning to tell a canonical story with their spiritual successor, is now in development at Arcanaut Studios.
