Potrivit nintendolife.com, Game Freak se îndreaptă spre hardware-ul Switch 2, după lansarea acestei generații anul trecut. Unele titluri de primă parte au avut lansări pe mai multe platforme, dar noul joc principal, Pokémon Winds & Waves, nu va face parte din acest trend. The Pokémon Company a declarat clar în materialele de presă oficiale și pe noua pagină web că aceste titluri de generație următoare dezvoltate de Game Freak sunt "exclusiv pentru Nintendo Switch 2". Cu alte cuvinte, platforma hibrid existentă a Nintendo nu face parte din planuri.
